Scam E-mail Alert
Beware of e-mails that look as though they have come from HMRC offering a tax rebate!
One of our clients has just brought to our attention an e-mail they have received that looks like it has come from HMRC, saying that after a recalculation, they could claim an amount back as a rebate.
The e-mail asks the recipient to click a link to fill out a claim form. If you receive an e-mail like this…
DO NOT CLICK THE LINK!
This will be either a way of gathering your Government Gateway login, your bank details, or both.
The poorly written English (as highlighted) in the last two paragraphs are one indication that this is a phishing e-mail. Another is that HMRC will NEVER provide you with a link to either login or provide your details. The sender’s e-mail address is also a giveaway.
If you receive any communication, whether it be an e-mail or a letter, and you have any doubts about its authenticity, please do not hesitate to contact us on 01384 376 964
