WARNING: Elaborate Scam Letter!

A client recently asked us to check a letter they had received, as they felt it was suspicious.

The letter looks as though it has come from HMRC with an urgent request regarding Web Filing Access for Corporation Tax.

The letter looks very authentic and a great deal of time and effort has gone into making it look like a genuine document, even down to the type of paper it has been printed on. It is however a scam letter, requesting the payment of £48 within 7 days, otherwise your web filing benefits will cease.

Some of the giveaways are the spelling mistakes and the change of fonts where scanned documents have been overlaid by scam information, like the bogus payment channels.
